Opportunities for Adult Education

TALMUD TORAH KE-NEGED KULAM--
"The Study of Torah is Fundamental to all the Commandments."

Rabbi Panitz conducts a variety of adult education classes for Temple Israel members. Non-members are invited to sample the courses:

THE DEEP STRUCTURE OF THE BIBLE-- Tuesdays, 8:15-9:15 AM
How did the Bible achieve its final form? How I can learn to hear each voice in its chorus of voices, and to apply its teachings to my life?

JUDAISM FOR JEWS AND JOINERS-- Sundays, 12 noon to 1 PM. Taught jointly by Rabbi Panitz and Rivkah Kushner.
A review of the basic teachings of Judaism. Beliefs, values, practices, life cycle traditions, daily, Sabbath and holiday observances... an introduction and/or refresher. All students welcome, regardless of religious viewpoint or level of prior knowledge.

TORAH AT THE BEACH-- first Monday evenings of the month, October through June, 7:30 - 9:00 PM
This class is held in homes across Virginia Beach. Feel free to volunteer your home, or simply to attend our classes. This year, we are completing a study of Extraordinary Jewish Women in modern times.

Adult Bat Mitzvah-- second and fourth Mondays, 7:30 - 9:00 PM
Our Adult Bat mitzvah class continues its preparations to lead the services and celebrate its Jewish accomplishments. The bat mitzvah date is June 4, 2011. In the Autumn, a new class will begin, so please contact the Temple office if you are interested. The new class will possibly meet at a different time, based on when the majority of students can most easily attend.

Private Tutorials-- by appointment
The Rabbi is available to help students increase their synagogue fluency, to prepare to chant a haftarah or a torah portion, to lead a worship service, or to discuss a life issue in the light of Jewish teachings.
